How big should your tent be?
Living Space Choosing floor dimensions are relatively easy; about 25 inches of width per person and about 80 inches of length will be suitable for most people. Taller occupants, or those camping with a dog, may want to look at tents that are closer to 90 inches long.
Is a 6-person tent too big?
It’s certainly bigger than you really need. Probably. A general rule of thumb is you should put 1 less person than what the tent is rated for in the tent, so there’s room for rbekr gear. So a 6-person tent would be good for 4 or 5 people.
Should I get a 4 or 6 person tent?
You’ll find a 4-person tent will be more comfortable for two people, and you will have space to spread out and store your gear too. For a family of four, I recommend a 6-person tent. As a rule-of-thumb buy a tent that has a capacity rated two people higher than the number that will actually be using it.
Is it worth buying an expensive tent?
Most of the time, there’s no need to buy an expensive tent. As long as you choose something with a decent level of quality, something in the middle price range is sufficient for the vast majority of campers. The only exception to this might include tents for those who camp very heavily or are frequent backpackers.
Should your footprint be smaller than a tent?
What size should a tent footprint be? Ideally, a tent footprint should be slightly smaller than the base of the tent. This is so that water doesn’t collect between the footprint and your tent, which would totally defeat the purpose of it!
Should I get 2 or 3 person tent?
Two wide pads usually won’t fit in a 2-person backpacking tent. The upside of going with a three-person tent is that you’ll have a much more comfortable interior space for two people. We prefer three-person backpacking tents for this very reason.
How heavy is too heavy for a backpacking tent?
As a guide a backpacking tent should weigh no more than 3kg per person, and less is much better. But less weight often means less room inside the tent and can mean a compromise on quality. Less weight can also mean a higher price tag. So you need to balance weight, quality and comfort in terms of space and price.
Is an 8 person tent too big?
Typically, an 8-person tent will have a single main area or room, and a one to three side-rooms. Of course, as we discussed earlier, this size can theoretically sleep 8, but it’d be a tight fit for any measure of comfort, you’re better off with six people, and if you really want to enjoy, four is even better.
Is a 4-person tent too big?
4-Man Tent Size For many families that enjoy camping, the 4-person tent size provides ample space and storage capacity. These tents can also be a perfect fit if you’re going on a longer camping trip. The average 4-man tent size comes out to about 240cm x 220cm in the main floor area.
What size tent should I get for 2 people?
A ten by ten foot tent is ideal for two adults. You will have enough space for cots or a double air mattress, plus space to stand up when changing clothes. Kids can fit comfortably in smaller tents. Once they are old enough, about seven or eight, they will probably want to sleep in a separate tent anyway.
Does a 6 person tent actually fit 6 people?
Yes, 6 children could probably fit inside of a 6 person tent, but with sleeping pads, backpacks, shoes, sleeping bags, clothes, etc. even they will be cramped.
Why are Coleman tents so cheap?
Coleman tents are cheaper than other leading brands due to the lightweight and inexpensive materials used to make the tents. Using polyester fabrics instead of nylon can make the tent much cheaper to produce and sell.
Does a 4 person tent really fit 4 people?
If we know that 25 square feet is the ideal space for an adult, a 4 person tent can barely fit 2 adults on average. While you shouldn’t count on a 4 person tent to house 4 adults, a family of 2 adults and 2 small kids is doable. However, we highly recommend sticking to a 4 person tent for 2 people or less only.
